چکیده

The indigenous sheep breeds of South Africa, such as the Nguni, are well adapted to different ecological regions throughout country. This has resulted into ecotypes. However, it is not clear if differences among Nguni genetically distinct. present study aimed use latest technology assess genetic relationship between ecotypes and other selected African using SNP markers. In current study, 144 samples (75 69 mixed-breed a reference) were genotyped OvineSNP50 Bead Chip assay from Illumina. consisted 25 Pedi, Swazi, Zulu sheep, with reference group comprising Namaqua, 23 Dorper, 21 Damara sheep. After quality control 54,241 SNPs, 48,429 SNPs remained for analysis (MAF > 0.05). There in population; notably, Swazi populations clustered together, but distinction Pedi ecotype. Genetic admixtures detected Dorper most likely consequence recent intermixing commercial breeds. levels diversity within individual types generally lower compared revealed an understanding regarding variation breeds, which can be used baseline information establishing conservation breeding programmes.

assessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...

the effect of e-64 on the developmental competence of sheep cocs during in vitro maturation

in the present study, the effect of e-64 at different concentrations (0.5, 1, 5 and 10 µm) added to (1) the ivm medium on oocyte nuclear maturation and developmental competence of ovine oocytes, and (2) to the ivc medium on embryonic development of ovine embryos were investigated.

The prevalence of ovine herpesvirus-2 in 4 sheep breeds from different regions in South Africa.

About 90% of bovine malignant catarrhal fever (BMCF) PCR-positive cases in South Africa are caused by alcelaphine herpesvirus-1 (AlHV-1) and the other 10% by ovine herpesvirus-2 (OvHV-2). The prevalence of OvHV-2 in different sheep breeds in South Africa was determined in order to investigate whether the lower incidence of BMCF caused by OvHV-2 in comparison with AlHV-1 can be ascribed to a low...

Genetic analysis of three South African horse breeds.

Genetic variability at 7 blood-group and 10 biochemical genetic loci was examined in 3 South African horse breeds, the Nooitgedacht, Boerperd and Basuto Pony. Observed heterozygosity for these breeds was intermediate for domestic horses, with the highest heterozygosity in the Boerperd and the lowest in the Basuto Pony. The 3 breeds show greater genetic similarity to each other than to other dom...
